Trailhead begins with that same easy-playing philosophy, but Jaromin developed it as its own instrument rather than attempting to reproduce the Merlin. What makes a Boondocker a Boondocker
The extra 6½ fret.
A diatonic fretboard is easy to play because it leaves notes out — the ones you do land on tend to sound right together. The trade-off is that a handful of familiar melodies sit just outside reach.

No. The Trailhead is designed and sold by Jaromin Guitars and is not made by or affiliated with Seagull or Godin. It belongs to the same broad family of compact, easy-playing, dulcimer-inspired instruments and uses a four-string format, but it is its own design.
What is a good alternative to the Seagull Merlin M4?

Merlin availability has become difficult at a number of retailers, and we can't speak for Seagull or Godin's production plans. What we can tell you is that the Boondocker Trailhead is being built now and is available directly from Jaromin Guitars.
Can I plug a Trailhead into an amplifier?
The Trailhead is offered as an acoustic instrument only. If you want a Boondocker dulcimer guitar with a pickup, the D2 line is available in both acoustic and electric versions, with piezo pickups on the electric models.
Is the Trailhead good for someone who has never played an instrument?
That's one of its primary design goals. The diatonic fretboard and the guided tuning and chord experience are intended to shorten the path from opening the case to actually making music.
