Meet the newest evolution of our beloved dulcimer guitar: the Boondocker D2 Maple & Sapele Electric. Built for musicians who crave tone, comfort, and versatility, this version pairs a solid Maple body with a Sapele top — blending brightness, warmth, and punch into one remarkable instrument.
Like all Boondockers, the D2 Electric is a 3-course, 4-string acoustic walking dulcimer (or dulcimer guitar) tuned to D-A-D, so you can play traditional Appalachian dulcimer tabs with the familiar feel of a guitar. Its diatonic fretboard and open tuning make it nearly impossible to hit a wrong note — every strum rings out sweet and true.

The new Maple body / Sapele top combination produces a unique tonal balance: Maple brings crisp attack and definition, while the Sapele adds midrange warmth and smooth overtones. The result is a clean, articulate voice that shines whether unplugged or through an amp.
Finished in multiple coats of lacquer and featuring our signature offset soundhole, the D2 Electric is as durable as it is beautiful. A Rosewood bridge with Corian saddle rounds out the design for consistent clarity and sustain.

The instrument is absolutely a great piece of art. It is simple but with excellent sound. The combination of maple body and seaple deck go together very well. It looks and sounds impressive. It is easy to tune and play. My father, an old guitar man, was positively astonished that such a small instrument is able to produce such great sound. Jaromin replies very quickly and is very helpful. This man is a great American luthier. The item was sent to Poland super fast. Thank you! The one little issue in my opinion is the slightly low placement of the double strings. Anyway, it’s easy to get used to. I am waiting for a kind of lute guitar with 11 frets and a deeper body 🙂
